Victim, suspect named in GJ homicide

Greene County sheriff Jack Wiliams provided the following information regarding a homicide that occurred in Grand Junction Sunday afternoon.

“On or about April 19, 2026, at or about 2:13 pm the Greene County sheriff’s office received a 911 call for an assault that occurred at 505 Main Street East, Grand Junction. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office along with Greene County Ambulance and Grand Junction Rescue responded to the address.

“The victim, Alex Treft, 34, of Grand Junction was transported Greene County Medical Center and then was life-flighted to Iowa Methodist in Des Moines with a gunshot wound. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was called to assist with the investigation.

“The suspect. Sebastian Ramirez, 27, of Perry was detained in Perry by the Perry Police Department and later transported to the Greene County sheriff’s office.

“At or about 11:50 am on April 20, 2026, Ramirez was charged with murder in the first degree and felon in possession of firearms.” Ramirez was booked into the county jail on the charges*.

*In all cases when a defendant has been charged this is merely an accusation, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
